I have been actively attempting to inform every first year student of the password every time it changes. Normally I advise against writing it down, but considering the circumstances of recent events...safety concerns have changed.

Two more students gone. One brutally injured. Madame Pomfrey said he almost died. The Carrows...they almost killed him. He's a student and they're our authority and they almost killed---
Michael's been trouble-making all year, and I warned him about it but his actions didn't warrant that.
Fear has become so real this year. It's almost tangible. You can see it in everyone's faces when they walk down the hallway, or while they're in class, or eating dinner. I can see it in Penny even though she tries to seem strong. It looms over everyone's heads. It stays with us while we're sleeping. It prevents us from sleep. Because of fear, it's become hard to remember a time when things weren't always this way.
We all deserve so better than this.
People don't seem to have much to say these days. Publicly, at least.

Someone stole my chess pieces.
I bought my own chess set in First Year, and while it's not a generational gift, it still means a lot to me. I spent a lot of money on it, and all of the pieces were hand-crafted. If possible, I would like them back.

I know you're still angry with me, but in the interest of keeping things comfortable for the rest of our dorm mates, I think we should at least speak to one another civilly about what happened with Anthony.

On a separate note, knowledge of the dementor break-in is as follows: To reiterate what was stated at dinner (for some people who might have missed dinner for whatever reason), apparently a student attempted to escape the grounds through a hidden passageway which in turn allowed the dementor to find a way into the castle. This person's selfish actions put the entire student body at risk.
If you are seen behaving suspiciously in unauthorized places around the castle, IS members will be able to detain you for questioning and searches at any given time. Please exercise caution. This is for the good of the student body as a whole, as we would not want another dementor break-in and have to suffer dire consequences for reckless behavior.

Anyone caught with "The Hogwarts Howler" will have detention. If you would like further explanation, see my entry before this, and the entry before that. Wonderful tactics you lot have in distributing information. Certainly not repetitive at all, and quite effective.

Mr. Finnigan, I hope you're proud of the damage you've done to another student as well as school property. Obviously I care more about Tracey's well-being, and thank Merlin she's in recovery and in good hands with Madame Pomfrey, but I do believe you deserve every bit of punishment you get from being so selfish and reckless.

I spent a large part of the evening in the Hospital Wing. Tracey Davis was badly hurt by a Knockback Hex and she took a rather hard hit to her head, and also a Stinging Hex to her face. She's in recovery right now. I had no idea Seamus Finnigan was so well-versed in the art of dueling.
Speaking of Seamus Finnigan, those of you who have not heard, he was caught by Tracey and I trying to break into the Carrows' offices and was apprehended by Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass after they caught up with us.
Tracey will be all right. Madame Pomfrey says that she has seen far worse in her day. If I were to guess, I'd say she will be back in classes at least the day after tomorrow.
Still, clearly something must be done. People continue to act out, and now an IS member has gotten hurt in the process. I believe things have gone too far when one of us ends up in the Hospital Wing, don't you?

Madame Pomfrey said you'd be awake later on in the day, perhaps sometime tonight. She wanted to let you get some rest, so I came by and dropped off your journal and a magazine or two to keep you occupied. If you'd like to keep up with your homework, I could get that for you as well.

It's interesting having a new Lounge. Sometimes it's quieter in there than it is in the Ravenclaw Common Room and the library combined. And the truffles in the snack bar are deliciou
I'm also glad to see people can leave the Trouble Table. I don't believe the Carrows are as unforgiving as many students paint them to be.

It's strange. I've always wanted to go into the Prefects' Lounge, but I lost the badge to Padma in 5th Year. She was, of course, more qualified for the job in many ways -- and despite my disappointment I could see that. However, I do enjoy our free hours and the fact that they serve such good snack food. And the couches in there are so comfortable. I have to work hard not to fall asleep studying on the red one, in particular.
I didn't join the IS thinking we would be the next Prefects, but it's certainly turning out that way isn't it? I even think we have more privileges. For one thing, we don't exactly have to go on as many rounds.
I'm so glad Su came back on Thursday, although it's so terrible to hear about her parents. I can't believe they tried to take her out of the country and none of them thought about the repercussions. Su knew that would happen, she had to have.
They can't keep them in Azkaban for long. If anything, I feel as though they should have been fined instead. Thrown into Azkaban seems wholly unnecessary. I did write to my mother though, explaining to her what happened and why it was so important for Penny and I to return because of that, and she seemed to understand far more than she did when I tried to explain it to her before.
This year I've had plenty of time to study for my NEWTs. I do wonder if it's because I've had less distractions from friends. I keep telling myself it's for the best.

I'm very glad to be home. I've missed my mother's beef stew and sweet potato chips. I'm wondering when Penelope will come up for air, as she's been talking non-stop for the past two days about Hogwarts. And I, of course, will have to do damage-control and make sure they know that she's perfectly safe.
It's frustrating. I don't reckon most parents understand the changes at Hogwarts, but I think it's our job to reassure them that things aren't as badly as they seem. The Ministry is watching Hogwarts carefully, and it is truly important that we learn Dark Arts considering that Unforgivables will might be used relatively more often. We've learned for many years how to protect against them, but it's also important to learn how to use them in the event of an emergency.
The gala was quite nice. After all of the stress some witches, including myself, went through to get dress robes so last-minute, it wound up being a perfectly enjoyable experience although occasionally very strange. Some of the ladies looked quite elegant to say the least, and the boys cleaned up quite well. But I do have to say, being as biased as I am, that I truly had the loveliest dates there.

Quite random, but, I've never liked eggnog. Something about the texture. My sister drinks it like it's going out of style. Perhaps it is, I never see it past January. I hear that taste buds change over time, maybe one day I'll realize that it's the most delicious thing ever. What is it about it that's so appealing? It's gloopy and thick...I'd much rather apple cider with a cinnamon stick any day of the week.
And Tracey, Padma, are you ready to be my dates for this gala? I think Morag ditched us for a boy. Honestly, does she know who she's standing up?

Obviously the Quibbler is considered contraband and needs to be disposed of immediately. In Ravenclaw we've left a little bin, much like the one we used for the pamphlets, so you can throw it in there and it will be incinerated.
If an Inquisitorial Squad member finds you with the Quibbler you will most likely be punished. Please make our jobs and your lives easier. Throw them out.
I feel as though all I do is write warnings in these journals. And yet ridiculous things still occur! Fancy that.

WARDED TO RAVENCLAW
Professors Carrow made an announcement to the Inquisitorial Squad today saying that we are now allowed to give detentions and use "brute force" against non-compliant students. I sincerely hope that none of the Inquisitorial Squad will have to do so, but I feel it is my job to warn my fellow students of this upcoming change.
I urge you all to please think about the consequences of your actions. Punishments will not be taken lightly and Inquisitorial Squad members are kept under high surveillance to make sure we are properly representing the new order. If we do not catch students who are stepping out of line, we could get in trouble ourselves. I do hope that makes sense.
It has taken me some time to mention the gala, only because I do not know what to say about it. It is causing many witches some stress. I wasn't exactly prepared and didn't bring any dressrobes with me this year. I partially just want to wear the ones I wore to the Yule Ball, but fourth year seems so long ago and I doubt they even fit me properly anymore.
I suppose the only time we'll have to buy something decent is our next Hogsmeade trip? And of course there's always catalogs, but I don't always trust them. It's hard to know what you're buying when you have to send away for it.

I had to turn my friend my roommate Su Li in to the Carrows. She left a notebook in the middle of our floor, and when I went to go and move it to her desk, a piece of paper fell out. It was a list of password charms that unfortunately link her directly to "The Muggleborn Threat" pamphlets.

Thank you to whoever found my missing white knight chess piece. I didn't think my request would be granted so quickly, and it was definitely a surprise to come back from class and find it on my bed. It feels good to know that my set is complete for tomorrow's Chess Club meeting. Now all I have to do is become better at the actual game. At least I've caught up my "wins" to my "losses" this semester, but I was hoping for a more substantial difference between the two. I've been told that persistence is key & I suppose the saying is true in that I've become persistently average at it over the years.
Also, I do not know anything about this mystery field trip other than it's required so please don't ask me any questions. I'm not sure if other Inquisitorial Squad members were more informed, but all I know is when it is taking place. The only field trips I remember going on regularly at Hogwarts were to Hogsmeade. Perhaps it's not as ominous as many are thinking it will be? It might very well be a pleasant afternoon and a nice change of scenery. I was criticized for being pessimistic in my earlier entry, but because I'm in relatively good spirits tonight I'll try on my optimistic hat for the time-being and see how it fits.

Now I know why Professor Flitwick told me to keep my candy stock. Starting today, food will be as much of a "hot commodity" as torture shows at breakfast. I'm hoping to see more students with full bellies and less students with mouths sewn shut, but I think it's safe to assume Professors Carrow are preparing for the worst and perhaps delighting in it.
It is now against school rules to have food in dorm rooms. Candy, at this point, is still allowed until further notice.
